19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since that period of that year.

Victory also means he has won twenty-one victories at 21 various competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent saved four early opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
