Automobiles in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Officers reported they were alerted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Police then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.

City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.

A senior official commented the vandalism left him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
